　　Adolescence can be tough, especially for young queer people who haven’t quite figured it out. We Will Never Belong charts one teenager’s quest for the truth with style and grace. Emi has recently discovered that her mother is in love with another woman, and Emi’s not handling it well. Things are much less confusing at her father’s, at least until her extremely intriguing stepsister shows up. Emi soon begins to understand why her mother living her life authentically was so difficult to face. 　　As Emi navigates her own emerging feelings and the complexities of her fractured family, she finds unexpected solace in her grandmother’s wisdom and the quiet beauty of her hometown. The arrival of her stepsister, however, stirs up emotions Emi isn’t prepared to confront, blurring the lines between curiosity and desire. Through intimate conversations and fleeting moments of connection, Emi starts to see parallels between her mother’s journey and her own struggles with identity and belonging. 　　The film delicately explores themes of self-discovery, acceptance, and the often-painful process of growing into one’s truth.
