Former Green Beret Louis Stevens returns to his hometown of Miami after completing military service in Brazil, only to learn that his old high school has become a haven for gangs and drug dealers. After Stevens uses his capoeira skills to kick several drug dealers off of the school property, Kerrigan, one of Stevens' old teachers, sees the impact that Stevens has on the students. Kerrigan gives him the task of teaching Capoeira to a handful of the worst at-risk students at the school. As Stevens begins training the troubled teens, he not only teaches them the physical discipline of Capoeira but also instills in them values of respect, teamwork, and self-worth. The students, initially resistant, gradually start to change under his mentorship. However, the local gang leader, Victor Mendez, sees Stevens as a threat to his control over the school and its students. Mendez escalates his efforts to intimidate Stevens and his students, leading to a violent confrontation. With the help of his students and the community, Stevens stands up to Mendez and his gang, ultimately reclaiming the school as a safe place for learning. The film culminates in a high-energy Capoeira showdown where Stevens and his students prove that discipline and unity can overcome fear and violence. Through his dedication, Stevens not only transforms the lives of his students but also reconnects with his own sense of purpose.
