Based on a script by Bornedal, Shadows in My Eyes (Skyggen i mit øje) will focus on the bombing of the Gestapo headquarters in Copenhagen in 1945, one of the most tragic events in Denmark during WW2. On March 21, 1945, the Royal Air Force launched Operation Carthage, aiming to destroy the Gestapo headquarters housed in the Shell House. However, due to navigational errors and miscommunication, one of the bomber groups mistakenly targeted the nearby French School (Institut Jeanne d'Arc) instead. The tragic accident resulted in the deaths of over 120 civilians, including 86 children and 18 nuns, while the Gestapo headquarters sustained only minor damage. The film explores this heartbreaking chapter of Danish history, shedding light on the human cost of war and the lasting trauma experienced by survivors. Through its narrative, the movie examines themes of grief, guilt, and the complex moral dilemmas faced during wartime.
