Sailor Johannes Blom returns to his home port after seven years at sea, only to find that Sally, the girl he has been longing for during his absence, is now completely despondent. Seven years earlier, the story begins with the obstreperous Alexander Blom, the captain of a salvage boat, who brings his mistress Sally to live aboard the ship alongside his wife Alice, their son Johannes, and the rest of the crew. The cramped and tense environment of the small boat becomes a breeding ground for emotional turmoil as Johannes and Sally, despite the complicated family dynamics, find themselves drawn to each other and eventually fall in love. Their forbidden romance unfolds against the backdrop of the sea, adding layers of passion and conflict to the already strained relationships on board.
