The story follows five-year-old rebellious Vitka, her teenage cousin Larysa, and Larysa's boyfriend Scar, a young criminal, in a Ukrainian provincial town. After her father's death, Larysa stands at a crossroads in life. Determined to forge her own path, she faces rejection from the tight-knit village community for her relationship with Scar. While grappling with her choices, Larysa uncovers a family secret - her grandmother once sacrificed her love for a young Roma man, choosing tradition and societal expectations over her heart. With her mother too emotionally fragile to offer support, Larysa feels increasingly isolated. Together with Scar, she dreams of escaping their life of crime, poverty, and oppressive family ties. But as they plan their daring bid for freedom, both must confront whether they're truly prepared to face the consequences and sacrifices their liberation demands.
